v2019 NEWCASTLE SUPER CARS Nov 22-24
- This year Charlestown Rotary were given the responsibility of managing the vehicle parking for the Stockton ferry option this year. Entry was by gold coin donation with 100% of proceeds pledged for drought relief within our Rotary District
- Well, after 3 gruelling days including very hot days, cool to cold days and all very windy days most of the time, our merry band of volunteers parked 1,564 cars, utes and buses.
After sorting the Australian notes and coins, from the NZ notes, one US dollar bill, several Singapore coins, a UK pound coin and UK penny, a Chinese 1 something,, a rusty 30mm washer, a black plastic Coles trolley token and a plastic Simba the lion cub,
we came to the staggering total of $6,259.05 in donations.
Add to this our $2,000.00 management fee which we are yet to receive, takes our total for the 3-day event to a whopping $8,259.05.
This is a fantastic result and is the result of the exceptional organising skills of Tom Burgess and Paul McCormack who were at the site at 6.15am every day.
We received many comments and thanks from those entering the park on the good work Rotary does for the community, and all were very pleased that the donations (in lieu of a parking fee) were going to the Drought Relief in the Upper Hunter.
The Department of Main Roads personnel who worked over the three days from 8am to 8pm, also stated that they were very glad to see Rotary managing the vehicle parking this year.
Again, a great 3 days of fellowship and camaraderie.
